India will take on Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series, Sri Lanka Cricket has confirmed. Shubman Gill and Co. will head to the island nation next month to take part in the two-match Test series, which is a part of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.
The first Test match will be held at the Galle International Cricket Stadium from August 15-19, while the 2nd Test match will be played at SSC Colombo from August 23-27. India thrashed Afghanistan in a one-off Test match recently, but that wasn't a part of the WTC cycle 2025-27.
Indian Cricket team are currently 5th in the WTC standings. The Shubman Gill era started with the hope of lifting the WTC title for the very first time. A 2-2 draw on English soild and a home series win over West Indird provided a great start. But a 0-3 whitewash against South Africa on home soil spoiled all plans and the Sri Lanka series awaits a tough test.
There were also reports of both sides getting involved in a T20I series, but Sri Lanka Cricket hasn't confirmed such a series.
Some of the Indian senior players with the likes Dhruv Jurel, are currently playing for India A in Sri Lanka and will offer more inputs ahead of the Test series. Sri Lanka's slowish surfaces could introduce a fresh spell of trouble for the Indian batters, who have struggled against spin in recent times.
India will also take on New Zealand in an away series, followed by a Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia on home soil.
