PBKS vs DC, IPL 2026: Shreyas Iyer blamed the bowlers for not defending the total after the loss, but there were also captaincy blunders made by him which hurt his side. Following the loss, Iyer is getting criticised for not bowling veteran spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, but was that the only captaincy error he made? Surely not. In this article, we will list out the blunders made by Iyer, the captain.

Iyer's Captaincy Blunders

Chahal is a LEGEND: The leg-spinner is one of the leading wicket-takers in the history of the league and then in a pressure situation, you don't bowl him at all. Iyer explains that the strip was assisting pacers and hence he did not bowl Chahal. Not a convincing response considering Chahal's abilities to turn games around.

Use of Arshdeep, Yash: The left-arm pacer is an experienced death-overs specialist. Knowing that very well, why did you get his quota completed by the 15th over? This is a valid question as Iyer could have controlled the game with Arshdeep had he not bowled him out. It can be argued that Iyer bowled him out as he was in good rhytm. But the counter-argument is, you knew you did not have good death-over bowlers and hence you could have held him back. What happened eventually was that an inexperienced Yash Thakur was caught off-guard as he just did not know what is to be done.

Randomly Backing The Debutant: Iyer backed debutant Ben Dwarshuis in a crucial juncture of the game which did not prove to be a good idea as he conceded 51 runs in his four overs. He bowled the 17th over where he conceded 17 runs and the game tilted in favour of the Capitals.
