CONFIRM! Yash To Play Ravana In Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana, Calls It 'Very Fascinating Character'

Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi starrer Ramayana have been in the news even before it was announced officially by the director Nitesh Tiwari. Earlier it was reported that Kannada star Yash has been roped in as Ravana. Now, the KGF star has finally confirmed the news in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter and revealed that he would probably not play any other character than Lankesh in the mega-starrer movie.

If this doesn’t happen today, then the film won’t happen: Yash

In an interview, Yash recalled he was in conversation with Namit Malhotra of DNEG and Prime Focus when he was told about Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana. The actor added he was impressed with Namit's passion and their thought process as they discussed the movie. It was during this conversation when Namit "hesitantly" asked him if he would be interested in playing the role of Ravana. The actor recalled his responce to Namit, “If the character is treated like a character… if this doesn’t happen today, then the film won’t happen. To make a film with that kind of budget, you need those kind of actors to come together and work for the project. It has to be beyond yourself and your stardom. We have to place the project and the vision first," he added.

For the unversed, Yash is also co-producing the magnum opus.

Yash calls Ravana the 'most exciting character to play as an actor'

In the same conversation, Yash opened up about his role and shared that it is a "very fascinating character" and he wouldn't have done the movie for any other reason.  "In Ramayana, if you had asked me, ‘Would you play any other character?’ Probably not. For me, Ravana is the most exciting character to play as an actor so I really like the shades and the nuances of a particular character. There’s vast scope to present it in a very different way," he continues.

Yash added that he is excited and hopes it comes out to be a "very unique approach".

When asked about Ranbir, playing Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi, playing Sita, Yash said that the former was already on board when he joined the cast. The actor added that he and Pallavi made a collaborative decision to accept the offer. He believes that this film has to have everybody from the South and North film industries.
