Sharmila Tagore spoke about the success of Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal. She stated that it needs to be discussed why the film got such a thunderous response from the audience despite it being criticised for being misogynistic and sexist. Starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial became one of the highest-grossing movies of last year.

Sharmila Tagore strongly reacts to Animal

Sharmila Tagore recently appeared Kapil Sibal on his YouTube channel Dil Se Kapil Sibal where she talked about the action flick Animal. The host of the show mentioned the film and called it a ‘violent’ watch. To this, the veteran actress asserted that it needs to be studied why people liked the film so much.

She said, “Beyond violence, there was misogyny. But there were a lot of women in the audience who said I want somebody to love me like that. Any film that runs a lot, you cannot rubbish it. You have to engage with it, try and understand it that what exactly is happening here.”

When Manoj Bajpayee defended Animal

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Manoj Bajpayee weighed in on the criticism received by Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal. The actor advocated that if people do not like a film, they should not watch it. He also argued that protests and bans hamper the industry and should not be allowed. He shared, “I am very clear if many people disagree or don’t like a film, what’s wrong with that? The film is released, does its business, and moves on. The money goes into the producer’s pocket; let them take it; they invested in the movie.”

He added that if someone disagrees with what is shown in a particular film, they should simply not watch it. He argued, “If you don’t want to watch it, then don’t. If you disagree with something, it’s better not to watch it, but don’t create trouble for the movie. You will be only encouraging a bad notion by doing so, what if others hinder your work in the same way? There should be open discourse without calls for bans or protests.” Animal stars Ranbir Kapoor along with Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor and Triptii Dimri. The film is now streaming on Netflix.
