John Abraham on actors' high fees demand
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, John Abraham addressed the issue of 'heroes asking for ₹100 crore per day and their stylists demanding ₹2 lakh per day,' describing it as 'mental.'
The Diplomat actor said, “It’s already hurting Hindi cinema.” Explaining the reason, Dhoom actor suggested that right now producers “shouldn’t pay people to act in films because we don’t justify such massive budgets or the high fees we receive.” He further slammed the “entourage costs in the film” by calling it “ridiculous.” He further stated, “I’m unsure if actors think this way or if their agents influence them. I don’t understand that mindset. While I get that being in a bubble is possible, you can’t be so out of touch. You need to step out and see the real world. If people are blowing sunshine from your backside, you need to wake up and smell the coffee. Our industry is truly suffering.”
John Abraham sounds alarm on the industry's financial fragility
John Abraham shared advice with his peers in Hindi cinema, stating firmly, “Actors should admit that we are down the deep black hole, and actors should go to the backend and work on the film. Actors should say that if the films make a profit, we make profits because we have earned our millions. How much more will you suck the system dry? But again, you can't clap with one hand. There are producers who are willing to pay those obscene amounts as well.”
Discussions about actors' fees and escalating film budgets in Hindi cinema have persisted for years. Recently, the poor performance of several big-budget films at the box office has brought this issue back into focus.
