Zubeen Garg's Funeral: The Singer was in Singapore to participate in the Northeast India Festival. His mortal remains were flown to Delhi before being transported to Assam for the final rites.
Zubeen Garg died in a tragic scuba diving accident in Singapore on September 18, leaving a void in the entertainment industry and the hearts of his fans. The last rites and cremation of the singer will be performed today, September 23, in Kamarkuchi Village with state honour. The Guwahati government has announced a holiday today owing to the singer's funeral. Preparations are currently underway, while the hundreds of fans have gathered outside the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, where the second autopsy is underway. The final journey will begin when the process is complete.
While addressing the media, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, “We will carry the mortal remains of Zubeen Garg from Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex at around 8 am on September 23 to the location of Kamarkuchi, where the last rites will be conducted. A state funeral will be held on September 23.” He also spoke about Garg's death certificate, which mentioned the cause of death as "drowning."
On Monday, she further shared a video informing fans about inspecting the cremation site. He took to his X handle to share an update with the singer's fans and wrote, "Ahead of the final goodbye to Zubeen, I inspected the cremation site and took stock of the preparations."
Zubeen Garg's funeral finds a place in The Limca Book of Records
In Guwahati, traffic came to a standstill when lakhs of fans thronged the streets to bid farewell to the singer on September 21. This was recognised as the fourth-largest public gathering worldwide by The Limca Book of Records. Apart from Zubeen Garg, the list also includes the names of Michael Jackson, Pope Francis and Queen Elizabeth II.
