Seeing the movie buffs' reaction, it seems Mohanlal's L2 Empuraan and Vikram's Veera Dheera Sooran Part 2 will earn well at the box office.
9 years ago, Chiyaan Vikram and Mohanlal clashed at the box office when their respective movies Iru Mugan and Oppam clashed at the box office. Both the movies received positive reviews and became commercially successful in India. Now, the history is set to repeat itself as Vikram and Mohanlal will be clashing at the box office once again on March 27. Despite being from different regional film industries both stalwarts are highly hailed by their fans across India.
When Mohanlal And Vikram clashed at the box office in 2016
Mohanlal and Vikram are among the celebrated actors who have given many hits at the box office. Now, as they are all set to clash at the box office again, fans are requesting them to re-create the history. In 2016, Vikram's movie Iru Mugan featured him in a dual role, alongside Nayanthara and Nithya Menen. The film follows an ex-R&AW agent, who sets out to track down a scientist, who has created a hazardous drug that can boost adrenaline levels. The science fiction action thriller was hailed by the movie buffs and went on to gross ₹95 crore worldwide.
Similarly, Mohanlal's Oppam, which was a crime thriller, earned positive reviews from the audience. The plot of the movie was influenced by the basic threads of the 2011 Korean film Blind and the English film Cape Fear (1991) which was adapted from a novel. The movie revolves around A retired judge who faces difficulty keeping his daughter safe from a convict he imprisoned. Later, when he gets murdered, a man with visual impairment who was loyal to him tries to defend his daughter. It became the third-highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time and the second-highest-grossing Malayalam film of the year.
Will Mohanlal and Vikram re-create history by giving a blockbuster hit despite a box office clash?
After setting the benchmark high, it is expected that this time too they might churn out hit movies as both the movies - L2 Empuraan and Veera Dheera Sooran Part 2 - are being praised by the fans widely. Recently, the makers of both films unveiled the trailers, and soon after they were trending high on X (formerly Twitter).
All About L2 Empuraan: The movie is helmed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, who also plays the leading role of Zayed Masood. The movie is the sequel to the 2019 hit Lucifer. The sequel follows the journey of Stephen Nedumpally, a man leading a double life as Khureshi Ab'raam, an enigmatic leader of a powerful global crime syndicate. Apart from Mohanlal and Prithviraj, the movie also stars an ensemble cast, including Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier and Abhimanyu Singh.
All About Veera Dheera Sooran Part 2: Helmed by S. U. Arun Kumar, the film revolves around Vikram's character Kaali, a provision store owner and a family man, whose involvement in a dangerous crime network and his mysterious mission forms the rest of the story. The movie stars an ensemble cast of S. J. Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu (in his Tamil debut), Dushara Vijayan and Siddique.
Soon after the trailer was released, fans of both movies shared their reviews on X calling them "Loading blockbusters". Some also shared that Veera Dheera Sooran Part 2 will mark the comeback of Vikram as his last few releases failed to leave a mark at the box office. Seeing the movie buffs' reaction, it seems both movies will earn well at the box office posing a great threat to each other's collection.
