Ne Zha 2 is on a roll at the box office. Released during the Chinese New Year period in January end, the animated feature film has now entered the $2 billion club at the worldwide box office, only the event film globally to achieve the milestone. It is also the only non-Hollywood film in the $2 billion gross collections club and is sure to surpass at least two titles to become the 5th highest-grosser of all time.

Ne Zha 2 set to surpass the collections of Avengers: Infinity War

Chinese mega-blockbuster Ne Zha 2 has topped $2 billion at the worldwide box office, becoming the first animated title of all time to achieve this milestone. It had earlier surpassed Disney Pixar's Inside Out 2 to become the highest-grossing animated movie of all time.

Made on a budget of $80 million (₹700 crore), the film is showing no sign of slowing down and will break more box office records in days to come. It will look to surpass the global collections of Avengers: Infinity War ($2.04 billion) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.06 billion) in the coming week. The Ne Zha franchise is historically one of the biggest commercial hits at the Chinese box office and the sequel is just following in the footsteps of its predecessor. The first film, released in 2019, is the fifth-highest-grossing Chinese film of all time.

According to China Daily, Ne Zha 2 is also based on a Chinese mythological figure — the protective deity Ne Zha. The film's script is based on a popular 17th century Chinese novel, The Investiture of the Gods, which is one of the first major literary works to feature "deities" and "demons" in Taoism and Buddhism.
