Allu Arjun Reveals He Was 'Sad' When He Received National Award For Pushpa: Took So Long...

The winners of the 69th National Film Awards were announced in Delhi at the National Media Centre today (August 24). The National Film Development Corporation of India (NDFC) honoured the best films of Indian cinema that were released in 2021. Allu Arjun created history to become the first Telugu actor to receive the National Award for Best Actor in 2023. In an interaction, he shared how he really wanted to win the prestigious award for so long.

Allu Arjun: I was more sad than happy when I received that award

In a recent interaction on show Unstoppable With NBK, Allu Arjun revealed how did he feel when he won the National Award for Pushpa. He said to NBK, “Once I was checking the list of national award winners and I couldn’t find even a single Telugu name. I just saw Nagarjuna sir’s name, but he too had received it for some special role. There was no one as Best Actor. It stayed in my mind.”

He further said, “I thought to myself, ‘There were so many great actors. How did they miss it? How did your generation miss it? What about previous generations? With so many stalwarts in acting in Tollywood, how did we not get the award? I was more sad than happy when I received that award. I was feeling it took so long for a Telugu star to receive this.” He said, it was at this moment when he decided this won’t be his last. “I will clinch it.”

Allu Arjun said, “I am sharing this for the first time. I haven’t told this to anybody before. When Sukumar and I were planning Pushpa… as soon as he narrated me the story, I requested him just one thing, ‘I don’t mind even if the film is not a hit. But I must win the National Award for this film and that will be possible only if you will make it happen.”

Before 2024 concludes, one of the major release, ie, Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa 2. The film serves as the sequel to Pushpa: The Rise, which left a huge impact at the box office and in the minds of the audience.

The upcoming Telugu action drama film is directed and written by Sukumar under his banner Sukumar Writings and produced by Naveen Yerneni and Yalamanchili Ravi Shankar under their Mythri Movie Makers banner. The film features Allu Arjun in the titular role, alongside Rashmika Mandanna , Fahadh Faasil, Dhananjaya, Jagadeesh Prathap Bandari, Rao Ramesh, Ajay, Sunil, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Shanmukh and Ajay Ghosh. The film is set to hit the theatres on December 5.
