IIT Baba Abhay Singh Detained for Possessing Marijuana in Jaipur Released on Bail
"IIT Baba" Abhay Singh was detained in Jaipur for possessing marijuana but released as the quantity was within legal limits.
New Delhi: Abhay Singh, popularly known as " IIT Baba," was detained in Jaipur on Monday for possession of ganja (marijuana). He was later released on bail, and a case has been filed against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
An IIT Bombay graduate, Singh gained popularity at the Maha Kumbh , where he claimed to have embarked on a “spiritual journey in search of truth.”

According to reports, IIT Baba was released after a brief detention as the quantity of ganja found on him was within the permissible limit. Abhay Singh has also confirmed that a case has been filed against him.
During questioning, he reportedly identified himself as an Aghori baba and admitted to consuming marijuana as part of his spiritual practices.

‘IIT Baba’ Abhay Singh is also a former aerospace engineer whose journey from academia to asceticism fascinated visitors at the Maha Kumbh.
In many interviews after going viral on social media, Singh revealed that he had a difficult childhood and strained family ties. He claimed he was not treated well by his family and was often mocked for pursuing photography, with some calling him mad. This led him to contemplate leaving home in search of a better life.
Singh gained widespread attention at the Kumbh after a viral interview showcased his transformation from an engineering professional to a spiritual seeker.
