BREAKING: A massive fire broke out in a naphtha pipeline at the petrochemical plant in West Bengal's Haldia, leaving several workers with burn injuries. It is suspected that the gas leak directly triggered the blaze, which quickly spread to several nearby houses.
The incident has left 10 people injured. Emergency responders rushed the victims to Haldia Sub-divisional Hospital and Tamluk State Hospital for urgent medical attention. One worker is reported to be in critical condition and has been shifted to a hospital in Kolkata for specialised care.
A fleet of 12 fire tenders rushed to the site to douse the flames. After an hour and a half of intense operations, the fire department has been still struggling to bring the raging blaze under control. Local MLA Pradip Bijli has arrived at the scene to monitor the situation.
The intensity of the fire have severely impacted local infrastructure, forcing a suspension of rail services on the Haldia-Panskura route. Further details are awaited as emergency teams continue their firefighting efforts.
