Arvind Singh Mewar, the 81-year-old scion of the Mewar family and chairman of the HRH Group of Hotels, passed away early Sunday morning in Udaipur, Rajasthan , following a prolonged illness, family sources confirmed to news agency PTI.

Mewar, who had been under medical treatment for an extended period at his residence in Udaipur, was widely known for his leadership in the hospitality industry. The HRH Group of Hotels, founded by his father in 1963, includes properties such as the Lake Palace and other heritage hotels in Udaipur.

Who was Arvind Singh Mewar? 

Born on December 13, 1944, to Bhagwat Singh Mewar and Shushila Kumari, Arvind Singh Mewar was the second son of the family. He received his early education at home before attending Mayo College in Ajmer, where he passed his Senior Cambridge in 1961. Mewar later pursued his studies at Maharana Bhupal College, Udaipur, and graduated with a BA in English literature, economics, and political science in 1965.

Following his studies, Mewar went on to study hotel management in the UK at Metropolitan College, St Albans, and then furthered his education in the USA. In Chicago, he received on-the-job training in hospitality services, gaining a deep understanding of the industry.

Mewar's career in the hospitality sector began in earnest when he returned to Udaipur, where he worked closely with his father, the former Maharana Bhagwat Singh Mewar. From 1981 to 1984, Mewar served as the General Manager of Lake Palace Hotel, and between 1981 and 1984, he was also the personal secretary to his father. His work focused on guest relations, managing appointments, and overseeing travel plans. 

Apart from his contributions to the hospitality industry, Mewar was also known for his collection of fine crystal and antique cars, which were displayed for the public at the palace.

In 1972, Mewar married Vijayraj Kumari, the daughter of Fateh Singh, the son of Vijayarajaji, the Maharao of Cutch. Together, they had three children: two daughters, Bhargavi Kumari and Padmaja Kumari, and one son, Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, who is expected to carry forward the legacy of the Mewar family.
