A 17-year-old Class 12 student Commits Suicide in J&K Due to Academic Pressure
New Delhi: A 17-year-old Class 12 student from Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir was found dead hours after the declaration of the board examination results on Tuesday. The student had reportedly failed in Economics.
The deceased has been identified as Revansh Sharma, a Class 12 student from Paryote village in Doda. He had appeared for the Class 12 examinations this year, the results of which were announced on Tuesday afternoon. According to available information, Revansh became distressed after seeing his result and was later found dead.
The tragic death has sent shockwaves across Doda district, with widespread grief and mourning. Family members and locals expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the young student.
Reacting to the incident, Shakti Raj Parihar, MLA Doda West and BJP Vice President Jammu and Kashmir, expressed grief over the student’s death. In a post on social media, he said he was deeply saddened by the tragic demise of Revansh Sharma following the declaration of the Class 12 results.
Parihar said that no examination or mark sheet is greater than a human life and described the incident as heartbreaking. He extended his condolences to the bereaved family and said that words fall short in consoling parents who have lost their young son in such painful circumstances.
The MLA said the incident highlights the mental pressure faced by students in today’s competitive environment. He stressed that failure in an examination is not the end of life and urged parents, teachers, and society to support students during difficult times.
He also called for stronger counselling systems and mental health support in schools and colleges so that students do not feel isolated or helpless. The incident has once again raised concerns over academic pressure on students, especially during result season.
This is not the first time that academic pressure and exam results have been linked to tragic outcomes among students. In July last year, a 24-year-old final-year BDS student from Doda died by suicide in Udaipur, allegedly after prolonged mental harassment and academic struggles at her college, prompting calls for a judicial inquiry.
Additionally, in May 2025, an 18-year-old NEET aspirant from Jammu and Kashmir was found dead in her Kota accommodation, highlighting ongoing stress and pressures faced by students preparing for competitive exams.
Police said they have taken cognisance of the case and are looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Further details are awaited.
