New Delhi/Patna: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday released the final electoral roll for Bihar after completing a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise conducted between June and September 2025 — the first such large-scale revision in 22 years.

According to the Commission, the final roll now includes 7.42 crore electors, following an extensive verification and updating process. The exercise saw 65 lakh names removed from the draft list, while over 21.5 lakh eligible electors were added through Form 6 applications. Nearly 3.66 lakh ineligible names were also deleted from the draft rolls.

Key Figures from the SIR Exercise:

Electors as on June 24, 2025: 7.89 crore

Draft Roll (Aug 1, 2025): 7.24 crore

Eligible Electors Added: 21.53 lakh

Ineligible Electors Removed: 3.66 lakh

Final Electoral Roll (Sept 30, 2025): 7.42 crore

The ECI said physical and digital copies of the final roll are being shared with political parties. Voters can also check their details online at https://voters.eci.gov.in

The Commission credited the success of the SIR to the combined efforts of the Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar, District Election Officers across 38 districts, 243 Electoral Registration Officers, nearly 3,000 AEROs, around one lakh Booth Level Officers, lakhs of volunteers, and over 1.6 lakh Booth Level Agents from 12 major political parties.

ECI also acknowledged the role of the media in spreading awareness and conducting scrutiny. Meetings with political parties were held regularly to share draft rolls, booth-level data, and lists of voters found deceased, migrated, or untraceable, ensuring transparency in the exercise.

Reiterating its commitment to “no eligible voter to be left out, and no ineligible person to be included,” the Commission reminded that eligible citizens can still apply for inclusion in the roll up to ten days before the last date for filing nominations.

The finalisation of the rolls marks a critical step toward the Bihar Assembly elections. With the current Assembly term ending on November 23, the poll schedule is expected to be announced between October 6 and 7, mirroring the timeline followed in 2020.
