Heatwave Alert: IMD Issues Warning for Several States Including Bengal, Telangana, Odisha, and Jharkhand

New Delhi: India is currently experiencing an unseasonal heatwave, with temperatures soaring across several states. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heatwave alerts for West Bengal, Telangana, Odisha, Karnataka and Jharkhand.

Heatwave in Karnataka   

In Karnataka, the mercury has risen sharply, with some areas recording temperatures as high as 42.8°C. The state government has advised people to avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours and has prepared hospitals to handle heat-related illnesses. Similar conditions have been reported in Odisha, where temperatures are expected to remain above normal until March 18.

West Bengal and Telangana 

West Bengal and Telangana are also facing the heat, with the IMD predicting heatwave-like conditions to persist until mid-March. The IMD has attributed the heatwave to a combination of factors, including dry weather and high-pressure systems. While relief is expected in some regions by the end of the month, the current conditions serve as a stark reminder of the growing impact of climate change on weather patterns.

Heatwave in Jharkhand 

The temperature of Jharkhand is continuously increasing. Temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius have been recorded in seven districts. Due to hot winds blowing in some districts, the Meteorological Department has issued a 'Yellow Alert'. Chaibasa in West Singhbhum district recorded the highest temperature in the state on Saturday at 41 degrees Celsius, which is 7.6 degrees Celsius above normal. 

The temperature in Daltonganj reached 40.7 degrees Celsius, while it was recorded at 40.1 degrees Celsius in Bokaro Thermal. The temperature in Jamshedpur in East Singhbhum was recorded at 40 degrees Celsius, which is 6.4 degrees above normal.
