Bengaluru: As Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar visited the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj and took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam with his family, rumors about a possible political shift emerged. Shivakumar quickly refuted these claims, saying, “I am a born Congressman.”

Shivakumar further clarified that his recent visit to the Maha Kumbh was solely driven by his religious beliefs and respect for all faiths, emphasizing that it had no political undertones. "My visit to the Maha Kumbh is my belief, and I respect all religions," he added.

The Deputy CM also expressed his indifference to the allegations, stating, "Such speculations do not come even close to me; I don't take BJP 's allegations seriously."

These rumors have emerged amidst an alleged ongoing power struggle within the Karnataka Congress . Supporters of Shivakumar have been vocal about his chief ministerial ambitions, while Siddaramaiah continues to assert his leadership.

Speculation intensified after Siddaramaiah recently hosted a dinner for select Dalit and Scheduled Tribe (ST) cabinet ministers, fueling discussions about a possible rotational Chief Minister arrangement.

Shivakumar, however, has sought to downplay reports of a leadership rift, stating, “People have placed their trust in us for five years, and we will continue accordingly. The Chief Minister and I will function as per the party’s directives.” He also brushed aside demands from his supporters to be made Chief Minister, asserting, “I don’t need anyone’s backing. This is a matter between me and the Congress party.”
