Chandigarh: In a major blow to the Congress in Haryana, party working president Ram Kishan Gujjar has resigned from his position.

The Congress Committee Working President Ram Kishan Gujjar submitted his resignation to party chief Mallikarjun Kharge. In his resignation, the Congress leader, who is a prominent face in the Haryana unit, said that he wished to be relieved of all responsibilities within the party.

Following his resignation, Gujjar claimed that there was a “deep conspiracy” to malign party leader Shaili Chaudhary as he denied all allegations of cross-voting during the recent Rajya Sabha elections.

“Shaili Chaudhary is a loyal worker. Attempts are being made to defame her deliberately,” Gujjar said.

Gujjar said that he resigned in protest against false propaganda and internal targeting.

What Happened in the Rajya Sabha Polls

Ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections on Monday in Haryana, the Congress had moved its MLAs to Himachal Pradesh to prevent poaching attempts. However, despite such desperate measures, there were reports of cross-voting soon after voting.

Chaudhary’s name reportedly appeared among those suspected of voting in favour of a BJP-backed candidate, further intensifying tensions within the party ranks.

Gujjar is considered to be close to former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
