Professor Stabbed To Death By Commuter In Mumbai Local Train Over Trivial Argument, Accused Held
The altercation began onboard the train, where Alok Singh and his assailant were traveling together. What started as a minor disagreement over a trivial issue reportedly persisted throughout the journey, eventually escalating into the violent encounter.
New Delhi: What was supposed to be a routine, bustling commute for college professor Alok Singh through India’s financial and entertainment hub took a tragic turn when a minor dispute with a fellow passenger on a local train in Mumbai escalated rapidly, resulting in a violent confrontation that left Singh severely impacted.
As per reports, the Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics college professor was stabbed at stomach with a knife at Mumbai's Malad railway station by fellow passenger, following which the victim collapsed on Platform 1 and was raced to the hospital for further treatment, however, he succumbed to his injuries, according to police statements.
Meanwhile, within hours of the fatal stabbing, e Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested the primary suspect, identified as 27-year-old Omkar Shinde, early Sunday morning. Shinde was apprehended at Vasai station, located on the city's outskirts.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is undergoing intensive interrogation to determine the motive behind the sudden escalation of violence.
Why the altercation took place?
Singh had boarded the train at Vile Parle and was approaching Malad station just before 6 p.m. when a verbal altercation with a fellow passenger turned violent. According to police, the unidentified assailant suddenly lunged at Singh, delivering a single, deep stab wound to the abdomen before fleeing into the crowd as the train arrived at the platform.
The assailant, meanwhile, fled the scene immediately after the train arrived at Malad station. Despite his severe injuries, Singh managed to stumble onto the platform before collapsing while attempting to stem the bleeding.
Case lodged against unknown attacker
According to reports, the Borivali GRP had earlier registered a murder case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the unknown attacker, who has now been arrsted. Investigating teams, supported by forensic experts and a canine squad, had spent late Saturday evening scouring Malad station for physical evidence.
