Senior TMC Leader Madan Mitra Joins the Rebel Camp, Says 'I Have Changed My Roo, Not My House'

 In a major political blow to Mamata Banerjee’s faction of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), veteran leader and Kamarhati MLA Madan Mitra has officially joined the rebel camp.  The seasoned politician announced his resignation from all national and state committees of the TMC aligned with the former West Bengal Chief Minister. 

He also stepped down from his post as the party's chief whip with immediate effect.  Mitra formally aligned himself with the rival TMC faction led by the Leader of the Opposition, Ritabrata Banerjee, after meeting him in his chamber at the West Bengal Assembly.  

"Only Changed My Room, Not My House"

Despite the dramatic shift, Mitra downplayed the idea of defecting to an entirely different party, insisting that his core allegiance remains with the TMC banner."I have only changed my room, not my house. I am very much in the TMC," Mitra told reporters after his meeting with Ritabrata Banerjee. 

Mitra's physical move to the rebel side marks one of the most high-profile defections from the Mamata Banerjee loyalist camp since the internal rift began widening.  

Growing Crisis Within the Party

Mitra’s exit from the mainstream leadership is the latest and most significant setback for the Mamata Banerjee-led Kalighat faction.  The internal power struggle within the TMC has escalated rapidly over the last few months. The rebellion reached a boiling point after Ritabrata Banerjee and his supporters claimed control of the party headquarters and set up a parallel organizational structure.  With a veteran leader and recognizable public face like Madan Mitra now siding with the rebels, the balance of power within West Bengal's ruling party faces a massive realignment ahead of upcoming local polls, including the Kolkata Municipal Corporation elections.
