Chicago: In a tragic incident, a 26-year-old unemployed Indian man allegedly died by suicide in the United States after failing to secure a job in the foreign land. The deceased has been identified as Iraganaboyina Chandu, who had recently finished his post-graduation, was allegedly going through severe financial stress.
A Son, A Brother & A Friend: Who Was Iraganaboyina Chandu?
Iraganaboyina Chandu was a native of Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, who had arrived to Chicago with big dreams. He recently earned a Masters' degree from DePaul University, Chicago, following which he had been searching for a job for weeks.
He is remembered as a beloved son, a devoted older brother, and a truly kind-hearted friend to everyone who knew him. He is described as a wonderful, generous and warm human being, who was a pillar of support for his friends and his younger brother.
Financial Stress
According to reports, the failure to secure a job had put Chandu in extreme financial stress and did not want to depend on his family, who are financially unstable. His father works as a security guard.
As the financial stress mounted on him during the weeks of job-hunting, he finally took the extreme step of taking his own life and died at his home in America.
Following the tragedy, Chandu's educational debt has fallen on his family.
Funds Being Raised For ‘Heartbroken’ Parents
Well-wishers of Iraganaboyina Chandu in US have started a GoFundMe page to raise $120,000 to aid his family and bring his body back to Andhra Pradesh. His family are facing the threat of financial ruin on top of the loss of their eldest son.
The fundraiser page reads, "Our most urgent priority is to bring Chandu home. His parents are waiting in India, heartbroken, and they deserve the chance to perform his final rites and say their last goodbyes in person.
The cost of international repatriation from the U.S. to India- including funeral home services, legal permits, and transportation - is approximately $25,000. This is an expense his family simply cannot afford on their own."
“We are asking for your help to raise the $25,000 needed for his journey home. Any funds raised beyond this goal will go directly to his parents to help them manage the overwhelming debt that Chandu left behind. No parent should ever have to navigate a tragedy like this alone,” the GoFundMe page read.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu has assured that he will coordinate with the concerned people to expediate the transportation of the mortal remains of Chandu.
Chandu is currently resting at a funeral home and is expected to be air-lifted to Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.
