Jodhpur: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur is facing acute water crisis as extreme heat has gripped the state of Rajasthan. A video of students struggling to get hold of drinking water is going viral on social media, raising questions over the management at the prestigious institute.

A video from IIT Jodhpur has highlighted the extreme water shortage at the institute.

The clip showed a huge crowd of students gathered around a water tanker with buckets in their hands, desperate to fill water as temperature continues to surge in the state amid heatwave alerts.

As the water tanker started leaving the campus, students were seen running behind it with a red bucket in his hands.

According to reports, IIT Jodhpur does not have clean water supply and water is supplied to the institute from a pumping station.

The institute had to arrange for water tankers as water supply was disrupted after the pumping station got damaged due to voltage fluctuations.

Students have reported that they are facing difficulties in bathing, drinking, and other essential needs. Many students have called this a gross negligence on the part of the institute.

Reacting to the viral video, a netizen said that it is “pathetic” that Indians have to fight for basic things.

They added, "Is it any surprise increasing number of Indian students are moving to foreign universities? Better infrastructure, quality of education and standard of life and safety aren’t luxuries, it’s a human right…No matter who comes in power they will work for themselves to ensure they stay in power. This is why there is zero accountability."

Another said, "Just imagine if even IITs are not able to properly manage basic facilities like drinking water then what must be the condition of smaller colleges."
