1983 World Cup Winner Puts Nation First Over Cricket Affairs With Pakistan, Speaks Brutal Truth
A 1983 WC winner shared his opinions about India's decision to skip CT 2025 in PAK, saying he thinks the two countries shouldn't play cricket together again.
As the Champions Trophy approaches, controversy grows as Team India considers not travelling to Pakistan for the marquee ICC tournament in 2025. Tensions continue to rise as India's refusal to travel has left the ICC and PCB in a difficult situation. Amid the dispute among both sides, a former India cricketer and 1983 World Cup winner has spoke out over India's stance and fully supports the notion of not travelling to Pakistan amid tensions.
1983 WC Winner Fully Backs India's Decision To Not Travel To PAK for Champions Trophy 2025
During an appearance on the Debate With Arnab Goswami, 1983 World Cup winner Madan Lal expressed his thoughts on India's stance of not travelling to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. The former cricketer believes that India shouldn't resume cricketing ties with Pakistan as the relations continue to be sour among both sides. Madan Lal continued by stating that he prioritises the country and that cricket players are not the true heroes. The Jawans who are guarding the nation's citizens at the border are the true heroes.
"One can expect such things from Pakistan. They'll always do things to provoke you. In my opinion, if India's relations are not good with Pakistan, there's no point in playing cricket with them. I think BCCI has taken the right decision; ICC to cancel the Champions trophy [title tour]. That's the best thing they can do. Taking it into the Occupied Kashmir would be provoking India. We haven't forgotten about the jawans who were martyred in Srinagar, on 26/11. I am not speaking politically, we still feel the pain in our hearts. When the relations will be good, we will play.
"If they want to play cricket, then they have to stop all these things. Definitely, India will play it, India will never refuse. But the situations have to improve. Millions of people are involved in this, the spectators have a lot of emotions, you know. Whenever such an incident happens our spectators feel disappointed. The real heroes are not cricketers. Our real heroes are the jawans who are standing at the border, protecting us," Madan Lal said.
Madan Lal's comments came after several reports stated that the PCB's Champions Trophy title tour will not happen in the PoK region after a nationwide tour was announced by the PCB. Team India remains stringent over their stance of not sending the team to Pakistan. It is yet to be seen what will happen next. The ICC and PCB's plan of action over the scenario is yet to be determined.
