Established in 1909, this internal red-ball cricket competition was the main domestic cricket event in India prior to the Ranji Trophy's founding in 1934. This competition has seen participation by several cricket greats like Sunil Gavaskar, Srikkanth, Mohammad Azharuddin, and Sourav Ganguly. August 15 was intended to start the 2024 edition.

The event is named for Mothavarapu Venkata Mahipathi Naidu, often known as Buchi Babu Naidu, a major player in advancing cricket in the Madras Presidency. His innovative concept of arranging a match inside the Madras Presidency gave local cricket players a stage on which to highlight their skills against British players. Sadly, Naidu passed away in 1908, just one year before the inaugural event, which was later commemorated. Originally a local club event, the Buchi Babu tournament evolved into an invitation tournament in the 1960s and grew to be a major Indian cricket event.

When and where will the Buchi Babu tournament be held? 

The Buchi Babu Invitational Cricket Tournament is set to begin in Tamil Nadu on August 15th. Suryakumar Yadav, the designated leader of India's T20 squad, has been officially confirmed to participate. The event is scheduled to occur at Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, Salem, and Natham. In addition, Ishan Kishan, Sarfaraz Khan, and Musheer Khan are also participating.

The competition will adhere to the four-day format employed in the Ranji Trophy. The victorious team will be awarded a reward of Rs 3 lakh, while the second-place team will earn Rs 2 lakh. The tournament's final is set to take place from September 8 to 11.
