'Not All Time That You Get Players Who Can Come Back': Ex-Windies Cricketer Pinpoints Reasons Behind Virat Kohli's Greatness
Stalwart Indian batter Virat Kohli played his 300th ODI game against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025 on March 2.
Champions Trophy 2025: Virat Kohli played his 300th ODI match of his career against New Zealand in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025; however, the 36-year-old put water on all the fans' expectations after he was dismissed for just 11 runs in the 6th over. It was Glenn Phillips's stunning catch that left the Indian stalwart stunned on his 300th ODI game.
The right-handed Indian batter is currently the third-highest run-getter in ODIs with 14096 runs at a strike rate of 93.41. He slammed 51 centuries and 73 fifties in the 50-over format.
Viv Richards Lauds Virat Kohli
While speaking during a virtual interaction, former West Indies cricketer and a governing council member for the International Master League (IML), Viv Richards, said that a cricketer cannot make a comeback very often after having a downfall. The Caribbean also lauded the 36-year-old's 'fighting spirit, energy, passion' and said that these qualities make him different from others.
βThis is why I put him in the category of being great and legendary... Not all the time that you get players who can come back when they're down. His fighting spirit, energy and passion to do well make him stand out," Richards said as quoted by PTI.
The former Indian captain had a relatively slow start to the Champions Trophy 2025 but made a clinical comeback against Pakistan. He slammed an unbeaten century, helping the Men in Blue to seal a six-wicket win over their archrivals on February 23. Many people expected that Kohli would put on another show against New Zealand on March 2, but it was not just his day.
Team India's Run In Champions Trophy 2025
