Champions Trophy 2025: Following a sluggish performance in the Champions Trophy 2025, England batter Jos Buttler decided to step down as the Three Lions' white-ball skipper. Under Buttler's leadership, England registered two consecutive defeats in the ongoing tournament. In their opening game against Australia, the Three Lions suffered a 5-wicket defeat while Buttler's side conceded an 8-run loss in a thrilling match against Afghanistan.

After successive poor results from England's white-ball team, many cricket pundits lashed out at Buttler and asked him to step down. Even though it was just a matter of time, the 34-year-old on February 28 announced the news of him stepping down as England's white-ball skipper while speaking at the pre-match press conference before the Three Lions' match against South Africa. Buttler personally also failed to put up a show in the ongoing ICC tournament. The England batter could smash just 82 runs from three group stage matches.

Nasser Hussain Backs Harry Brook To Become England's Next White-Ball Captain

As England's time at the Champions Trophy 2025 comes to an end, the netizens have started the debate of who will be taking over Buttler's role in the squad. While speaking to Sky Sports, former England skipper Nasser Hussain shared his opinion and said that the 26-year-old Harry Brook should take over Buttler's role.

"Harry Brook is the obvious one with the amount of important cricket coming up for England. Do you want to put that pressure on a young man who's got an India series at home, an Ashes away and then a World Cup T20 in India and Sri Lanka? Or do you go to a stop gap, James Vince, Sam Billings, Lewis Gregory, seasoned, domestic, franchise captains to just do it for a while?" Hussain said as quoted by Sky Sports.

Harry Brook's Numbers In ODI Cricket

Brook made his ODI debut in 2023 against South Africa. Following that, the youngster smashed 797 runs from 25 50-over games at a strike rate of 102.04. He has slammed one century and five fifties as of now in the ODI cricket.
