Harmanpreet Kaur in TROUBLE For Breaching WPL Code of Conduct Following Ugly Spat With Sophie Ecclestone | WATCH
WPL 2025: The third season of the Women's Premier League is happening and there is massive excitement around the country.
WPL 2025: The Women's Premier League has entered it's third season and the popularity is growing every year. More players, more records being broken and of course, more viewership - things are looking good from that point of view. But on Thursday during a WPL match in Lucknow, there was controversy. And at the centre of the controversy was India captain Harmanpreet Kaur.
She got into an ugly spat with Sophie Ecclestone. The spat forced the on-field umpire to step in and defuse tensions. The incident transpired in the penultimate over of the game when on-field umpire Ajitesh Argal informed Harman that her team would be allowed only three fielders outside the circle in the final over due to a slow over rate. This is exactly what upset her.
HARMAN REPRIMANDED
The Mumbai Indians captain was eventually reprimanded and fined 10 per cent of her match fees for breaching the WPL Code of Conduct. She admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 which relates to showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during a match.
Mumbai eventually won the match over U.P by six wickets.
'We're quite flexible' - Harmanpreet Kaur
"They batted really well, we were not able to use the conditions in the first six overs. We knew we just needed one wicket to come back into the game. The opportunity came at the right moment. We're quite flexible, we have to prepare really well, today we went with what was best for us. All the games, we try to stay together. Really happy with the way we played today," Harmanpreet said at the post-match presentation.
In the points table scenario, Harman-led Mumbai Indians, are now in a commanding position with eight points. They will lock horns with Gujarat Giants in their next fixture on March 10.
