ICC Rankings: Rohit Sharma Surpasses Virat Kohli, Makes Massive Gains After India's Champions Trophy Win
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has surpassed Virat Kohli in the recently released ICC ODI Rankings
ICC Rankings: Indian ODI skipper Rohit Sharma might be in the final stages of his cricketing career, but he continues to scale new heights in regular intervals. Skipper Sharma recently led India to their third Champions Trophy title. Inia defeated New Zealand by 4 wickets in the summit clash of the tournament. Soon after the iconic victory, Rohit made it extremely clear that he does not have any intention of retiring from ODI cricket anytime soon. Rohit also added that he needed to set the record straight so that there are no rumours being spread regarding his retirement.
Rohit Sharma was also adjudged the player of the final. While chasing 250 runs in the ICC Champions Trophy final, the 'Hitman' ended up scoring 83 ball 76 runs which helped the 'Men in Blue' beat the Kiwis by 4 wickets and clinch the silverware for the third time.
Rohit Sharma's Meteoric Rise In ICC Rankings
With 756 rating points, Indian captain Rohit Sharma is on the third spot of the latest ICC ODI Rankings. Sharma has raced past Heinrich Klaasen and his compatriot Virat Kohli . Sharma career-best rating points (882) came against Sri Lanka during the 2019 ODI World Cup . Rohit Sharma had been under the radar for quite sometime because of his performances in red ball cricket, but he has now answered all his critics in style by leading India to their third Champions Trophy win.
Shubman Gill on the other hand has held the top spot with 784 rating points. Former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is just 14 rating points behind him and is on the second spot. Apart from Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer is also in the top 10 and is ranked number eight.
Rohit Sharma Denies Retirement Rumours
Just After India won the Champions Trophy, Rohit Sharma made his intentions clear of not retiring from the ODIs. Rohit also said that he had to speak openly about it because he didn't want people to spread rumours around his retirement.
