ICC Champions Trophy 2025: It was a night to forget for England in Lahore as they lost to Afghanistan by eight runs on Wednesday. Following the loss, England's chances of making the semi-final also ended as they had already lost their opener against Australia. Joe Root, who was the best batter for England on the forgetful night, was in tears after the shock loss. Root, who scored 120 off 111 balls and kept England in the game till the very end, could not keep a lid over his emotions inside the dressing-room. With the ton, Root ended his century drought.

The former England captain hit his first ODI century in almost five years and 37 innings. But again, that century was not good enough to see England through. Here is the clip where you can see Root in tears inside the dressing-room.

Meanwhile, England are out of CT 2025, while Afghanistan live on to fight another day. Some of the Afghanistani players have really done well and grabbed headlines, the fans would be hoping they can continue this run.

‘His ODI record is fantastic’ - Buttler on Root

"He (Root) has been a brilliant player in all formats and showed us the way to handle the pressure. His ODI record is fantastic. If I knew I wouldn't be playing the way I am (referring to his bad form), being one of the best players in the world it is disappointing when you don't perform," Jos Buttler said at the post-match presentation. 

Afghanistan take on Australia in their final group-stage game in Lahore. For Afghanistan, it is a must-win. Can they stage another upset?
