'Just Happy Getting A Chance': KL Rahul Highlights On His Fluid Position In India’s Batting Line-up During Champions Trophy
KL Rahul opener up on the fluid role he has had in the Indian batting line-up in Team India's ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign in Dubai.
Champions Trophy 2025: Team India wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul has opened up on the controversy regarding his batting position in Team India for the Champions Trophy 2025. The Indian cricketer has highlighted that he is used to moving up or down in the order as per the team's needs and is content by getting a chance and contributing to the team in whatever role he has been assigned by Team India's ODI skipper Rohit Sharma.
KL Rahul Offers Insights On His Batting Position In Team India
The batting position of KL Rahul has been mighty unusual as it has changed over time. The Stumper was a specialist batter and was positioned as an opener in the Border Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia. But in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025, KL has been positioned in the middle-order and plays the role of a finisher in the play. KL Rahul has opened up on the fluidity over his role in Team India, saying that it has helped hum understand the game.
"So, I'm quite used to going up and down the order so I'm just happy getting a chance to play in the middle and whatever role is given, I think it's really helped me understand my game a lot more and I've had to work on boundary hitting a lot more in the last year or so because the last ODI we played in Sri Lanka I batted at No. 6, so I knew that's where I'll be batting and [we] needed a left-hander in the top order.
"Every time I perform in a series and then there's a break from ODI series, ODI cricket and then we come back after four or five months there's a question mark again about 'oh well will he play in the XI, where does he fit' and sometimes I'm sitting there thinking what more can I do. Everywhere that I've been asked to play I've played and I feel like I have performed my role. Whatever's been told to me by Rohit [Sharma], Rohit's been the captain for the last four-five years. And whatever he's told me I feel like I've done that to the best of my ability," KL Rahul said while speaking to Star Sports after Team India defeated Australia in semifinal one of the Champions Trophy 2025.
KL Rahul Played A Pivotal Role In India's Champions Trophy Run So Far
KL Rahul has played a vital role in Team India's middle order and has been a dependable batter in the zone. The inclusion of the stumper adds strength to the team's batting order, as India's line-up features some reliable hitters. While facing Australia in the CT semifinal, KL scored an unbeaten 42 off 34 balls and scored the winning runs for India. The win guaranteed the Rohit Sharma-led side a spot in the summit clash.
Team India's opponent is yet to be determined, as South Africa and New Zealand lock horns in the second semifinal at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium. The winner will be heading to Dubai for the summit clash on Sunday, March 09, 2025.
