Has India produced any seam-bowling all-rounder after Kapil Dev?

Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev led the Indian team which won its first-ever ODI World Cup in the year 1983. Kapil is one of the greatest all-rounders of international cricket and has proven his mettle with both bat and ball. However, after Kapil's departure, the Indian team has not been able to produce any seam-bowling all-rounder. Though, India has received the services of quality spin-bowling all-rounders like Yuvraj Singh, Sachin Tendulkar, Suresh Raina and many more. Apart from these greats, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin have carried the responsibility of the Indian team for the last few years and contributed to the team's win with both bat and ball.

But Hardik Pandya is one name, who has proved his worth in the Indian team with his performance over the past few years. Pandya made his debut for the Indian team due to his fearless hitting in the Indian Premier League for Mumbai Indians under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Pandya was groomed as a bowler under the guidance of Dhoni and was later utilised by Virat Kohli. Hardik has now become the vice-captain of the Indian team and at present is one of the best all-arounders in world cricket.

How have Indian all-rounders performed in the last two years?

The Indian cricket team CWC 2023 squad features all-rounders like Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja, and a deep analysis of their performance in the last two years. Apart from Pandya and Jadeja, Shardul Thakur and R Ashwin can also be considered all-rounders, due to their consistent batting performance with the bat in the Test format.

  • Hardik Pandya: The Indian all-rounder, has taken the Indian team towards victory from many crunch situations in the past. Pandya has taken wickets with the new ball and has finished the innings really well with the bat by coming down the order. Hardik's best performance has come against Pakistan, which consists of innings of 33* runs off 17 balls in the 2022 Asia Cup, or 87 runs in the 2023 edition of the tournament. Hardik Pandya has been very consistent with both bat and ball and can prove to be an asset for the team in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
  • Ravindra Jadeja: The Indian left-arm spin bowling all-rounder is more of a front-line spin bowler than a batsman. Jadeja has been leading the Indian spin attack and has the responsibility to take wickets in the middle overs and also controls the flow of runs. Jadeja has taken up his responsibility very seriously and won many matches for the Indian team in the last two years. Jadeja is also a 'gun' fielder and if the latter does not perform with bat and ball, he can take the team to victory with his tremendous fielding.
  • R Ashwin: The Chennai-born off-spinner has proven his worth with the bat in the longer format and scored a lot of runs. Ashwin is currently the world's number-one Test bowler and achieved many records with the ball in the Test format. Ashwin has not played much ODI cricket in the past two years, but has the capability to build partnerships and can bat in pressure situations.
  • Shardul Thakur: The Mumbai pacer is a frontline bowler who can play short cameo knocks of 10 to 30 runs which can prove to be very useful for the team in knockout matches. Thakur has the ability to break partnerships and take wickets in the middle overs.

The ODI World Cup 2023 will be a great chance for young Indian team players like Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan to prove their worth in the team and cement their place in the squad.
