Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif to Personally Review PCB’s Failures at ICC Champions Trophy 2025 - REPORT
ICC Champions Trophy 2025: It was a tournament to forget for hosts Pakistan as they could not win a single match.
ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Mohammed Rizwan-led Pakistan cricket team has been facing immense criticism following their early exit from the Champions Trophy 2025. The Men in Green could not win a single game and left the tournament with merely one point in three games.
Now, Rana Sanaullah, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on political affairs, has revealed that Shehbaz Sharif would personally review the side's performance and the role of the Pakistan Cricket Board. In a recent interview with the Dawn, Sanaullah has spoken about lack of accountability of the PCB and also revealed that the cricket board overspent massively on the Champions Trophy preparations and operated without oversight.
‘What they have done is unacceptable’ - Rana Sanaullah
“The cricket board is an independent institution. They can do as they please, which they have. But what they have done is unacceptable. I will request the Prime Minister to discuss the matter in the cabinet and parliament,” said Sanaullah.
"This is not about one instance or a particular chairman. This has been happening for the past five or ten years,” he added.
‘Being paid to do nothing’
“Mentors are being paid PKR 5 million monthly, and they themselves have admitted they don’t know what their responsibilities are. They’re essentially being paid to do nothing,” he concluded.
The Pakistan government had allocated PKR 12.3 billion for the renovation of stadiums for the marquee ICC event. Despite the allocation of the whopping amount, the venues for CT 2025 were not ready on time and the country faced massive embarrassment over it.

The Men in Green lost their opening game by 60 runs against New Zealand and then they were beaten by six wickets by India. Finally, Pakistan's hopes of a consolation win against Bangladesh was also quashed after rain played spoilsport. Pakistan exited the tournament with merely a solitary point, thanks to the rain.
