The 2025 edition of the Champions Trophy that was played in a 'Hybrid Model' concluded recently. Rohit Sharma's Team India defeated New Zealand in the summit clash and clinched the ICC Champions Trophy for the third time. The Pakistan leg of the Champions Trophy turned out to be an absolute disaster with the home team crashing out of the tournament in the group stage itself. Scary air shows, empty stadiums and lacklustre drainage systems exposed Pakistan's unpreparedness for the marquee ICC tournament.
Pakistan To Stage Protest Against The ICC: Reports
It is being reported that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is all set to stage a protest against the International Cricket Council. The PCB has been fuming after Sumair Ahmad, the tournament director was blatantly ignored during the closing ceremony in Dubai. A source close to the Pakistan Cricket Board revealed that Mohsin Naqvi wasn't satisfied with the reasons that the ICC gave behind not having Ahmed on stage at the presentation ceremony.
The source also revealed that the ICC was expecting PCB supremo Mohsin Naqvi to be present during the summit clash, but they had to change their plans at the last moment when he didn't show up. The PCB who have already embarrassed themselves multiple times during the tournament feels that the ICC is at fault and it committed blunders despite Pakistan being the host nation of the Champions Trophy.
Roger Binny, the Board of Control for Cricket in India's president had presented the white jackets to the Indian team and ICC Chairman Jay Shah handed over the trophy to Team India captain Rohit Sharma.
Mohsin Naqvi Appreciates His Team
Despite all the embarrassments on a global stage like the ICC Champions Trophy, PCB supremo Mohsin Naqvi has lavished praise on his team. 'Your commitment and collective efforts ensured the seamless execution of the prestigious tournament. Pakistan takes immense pride in hosting the Champions trophy and making it a spectacle for cricket fans worldwide', wrote Naqvi on his social media handle.
Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar had expressed his disappointment earlier that he did not spot any PCB official during the closing ceremony of Champions Trophy 2025.
