ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Pakistan cricket team, who were the defending champions, succumbed to an early exit after losing to New Zealand, India.
ICC Champions Trophy 2025: The Pakistan cricket team faced an embarrassing exit from the marquee ICC event after failing to win even one match. Pakistan lost their games against New Zealand and India after which their final group-stage game against Bangladesh was called off due to rain. While Pakistan still comes to terms with the shock exit, there are whispers of resumption of India-Pakistan bilateral ties doing the rounds. Amid these whispers, former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has given his opinion on it.
Quashing the rumours, Gavaskar said such talks can only happen once there is peace at the borders. Speaking on the Pakistan's Cricket show ‘Dressing Room’, Gavaskar stated that political tensions and security concerns remain the biggest obstacles at the moment.
‘Let’s at least start with talking’
"Frankly, by having peace at the borders. It’s very simple. If there’s peace at the borders, then I think both governments will certainly say, 'Look, okay, we’ve had no incidents, nothing at all. So let’s at least start with talking,’" Gavaskar said.
"I’m pretty certain there will be some back-channel connection going on. But you want to see what’s happening both on the ground and off the ground because of the fact that there are incursions we hear about. That’s the reason why the Indian government is saying, 'Look, maybe until all that stops, we should not even look at having or talking about anything,’" he added.
