With the retention round the corner, there are massive speculation over spots. Reports suggest Virat Kohli would be retained by RCB. Kohli, who is one of the finest batters of the generation and has been a part of the franchise, was anyways expected to be retained. As per a report on Hindustan Times, Mohammed Siraj is also likely to be backed as a retention. The big surprise as per the report is Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell may not be retained. He had an underwhelming 2024 season in which he scored merely 129 runs in 10 games and that is being looked at as the reason for his omission. Maxwell also had left the side mid-season citing mental health as the reason.

One feels Australia's Cameron Green would have also been in the reckoning had he not picked up an injury. Green's injury as per Cricket Australia would make him unavailable for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. For the unversed, Green had picked up the injury during the ODI series against England earlier this year. The Aussie all-rounder is expected to be fit by March 2025.
