Pakistan's miserable run continued to haunt them following their early exit from Champions Trophy 2025. Mohammed Rizwan's side failed to muster a single win in the Champions Trophy, which led to their elimination from the marquee event.

The Men In Green started their Champions Trophy campaign on a sour note, having lost to New Zealand by 60 runs. They had the chance to recover but a dominating India inflicted a six-wicket defeat on them, ending their hopes in the Champions Trophy 2025.

Wasim Akram Lashes Out At Shaheen Afridi

The defending champions have faced severe criticism for their shambolic performance and their bowling failed to live up to the expectations. The focus was on Shaheen Afridi who was given the charge to lead Pakistan's bowling unit. But the left arm pacer could only manage to rack up two wickets in two matches and his performance now attracted severe criticism.

Pakistan legend Wasim Akram launched a scathing attack on Shaheen, insisting batters no longer fear the fast bowler. As quoted by Geosuper.tv he said, “He hasn't learned how to bowl outswing on a consistent basis. He has only two types of deliveries. Either he will bowl a yorker or keep straight. The world knows about his bowling now, and the batters are prepared to take on him. He doesn't know how to take the ball away from the batter."

PCB Urged To Move On From Shaheen, Naseem and Rauf

Pakistan fast bowlers have failed to deliver on big occasions on a regular basis. They first conceded more than 200 runs against the Kiwis in the tournament opener and gave a very below par performance against India in the following match.

Taking a note of their performance, former Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez urged the PCB to move on from the trio and give others a chance to prove their worth. During a show on PTV he said, “It is time to realise that these guys, according to many people they have skills, lekin vo skills bada tournament jitwane k kabil nahi hume najar aa rahe hai, vo sabit nahi kar rahe hai. Let’s move on from them. Let’s bring other people. Let’s go with Mohammad Ali, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Wasim Jr., Akif Javed, Mir Hamza. These guys are waiting for their chances. Inko khila k dekh lete hai. They are also Pakistani; they also have a Pakistani passport."

Pakistan will now travel to New Zealand and will take part in a five-match T20I series followed by a three-match ODI series.
