Windies legend Chris Gayle lauds India's Mohalla Clinics, calls it 'absolutely fantastic'

Chris Gayle has been out of cricketing action for the last one and a-half years. He last played an international match for the West Indies in November 2021.

West Indies legend Chris Gayle on Tuesday heaped praise on India's Mohalla Clinics during his trip to Punjab. According to reports, Gayle was in Punjab to visit Jalandhar's sports market, where most of the cricket bats for international players are manufactured. It is important to note that Gayle was joined by Jalandhar West MLA Sheetal Angural, who warmly welcomed him and discussed various issues. 

Gayle also held a brief interaction with the press, where he lauded the Bhagwant Mann's government for their work in the health sector. He particularly praised the Mohalla Clinic set up in Punjab and said that work like that should be spread across the world. A video of Gayle's interaction with the media has been shared on Twitter by the official handle of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The post has gone viral with over 40,000 views in the past several hours. 

"What Mr. Bhagwant Mann has done, he has done something fantastic by opening about 500 clinics. So, that's something fantastic as well. We need more people like him with a good heart to spread these things around the world.

Chris Gayle's career

Gayle has been out of cricketing action for the last one and a half years. He last played an international match for the West Indies in November 2021. It was an ICC Men's T20 World Cup match against Australia. Gayle was dismissed for 15 off 9 balls in the game, which turned out to be his last outing in the Maroons. Gayle is currently busy doing TV commentary in India, where he is part of a panel on JioCinema doing shows on IPL 2023. 

Gayle has represented the West Indies across 103 Tests, 301 ODIs, and 79 T20I matches. he has scored 7214 runs in the longest format at an average of 42.18 including 15 centuries and 37 half-centuries. In 50-over cricket, the explosive batsman has 10480 runs at 37.83 with 25 hundreds and 54 fifties. Gayle has scored 1899 runs in the shortest format at an average of 27.92 including two centuries and 14 half-centuries.
