On Monday, October 23, 2023, Afghanistan destroyed Pakistan in the ICC ODI World Cup match in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. Babar Azam’s team won the toss, decided to bat first, and managed to make 282/7 in 50 overs. Afghanistan chased the target in 49 overs and won the match by 8 wickets.

AFG vs PAK: Irfan Pathan celebrates with Rashid Khan

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan joined Afghanistan's spin wonder Rashid Khan in celebrating their incredible triumph against Pakistan at Chennai's Chepauk Stadium. Afghanistan won their second match in the current ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, demonstrating their skill as a cricket team with an impressive eight-wicket victory.

Afghanistan are 6th on the ICC ODI World Cup table

Afghanistan's convincing win moved them up to the sixth slot in the tournament points table, whereas Pakistan, despite having a higher net run rate, ended up in fifth place.

Pakistan elected to bat first and amassed 282 runs with the help of opener Abdullah Shafique and captain Babar Azam, both of whom scored half-centuries. Iftikhar Ahmed and Shadab Khan also chipped in with 40 runs each.

Noor Ahmad, an 18-year-old bowler from Afghanistan, made his World Cup debut and immediately showed off his skill. In his 10 overs, he gave up just 49 runs while taking three wickets.

Afghanistan responded in style, putting on an amazing show of cricket. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, the opening pair, set the tone with an incredible 130-run partnership. Gurbaz showed off his strength with a rapid 65 off only 53 deliveries, and Zadran came close to reaching his first century in an ODI World Cup, finishing at 87 off 113 balls.

At the Chepauk Stadium, Afghanistan won by 8 wickets owing to an incredible undefeated partnership of 94 runs between Rahmat Shah and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi, who led the chase.
