Indian men's cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid's contract was until the 2023 ODI World Cup and there is no official confirmation regarding its renewal as of yet. It is highly likely that Dravid may not continue at the post further. The 'Men in Blue' are currently playing the IND vs AUS T20I series under VVS Laxman, who is expected to replace his former teammate to become the next Indian head coach.

Gautam Gambhir schools down Rohit Sharma over statement on Rahul Dravid on CWC 2023 final eve

Ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup final, Indian captain Rohit Sharma stated that the team wants to win the trophy for head coach Rahul Dravid. Rohit Sharma said that Dravid has put a lot of effort into the betterment of the players throughout his tenure and they would like to dedicate the victory to the coach if they manage to lift the trophy at home.

However, former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir seems unhappy with Rohit Sharma's statement on Rahul Dravid and believes that a World Cup should not be just about an individual but for the whole country. Gautam Gambhir said while speaking to Sportskeeda:

You are trying to win the World Cup for the entire country. And if you want to say such a thing then don't say it in the media. Keep it within yourself. The truth is, it is more important to win a World Cup for the nation. I was asked the same in 2011 when everyone said we were trying to win the World Cup for one individual, I said no I want to win the Cup for my country. I picked up the bat for my country. So Rohit probably shouldn't have said this.

Will Rahul Dravid's contract as India coach be renewed?

Rahul Dravid replaced Ravi Shastri as the head coach of the Indian cricket team after a dismal performance at the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE. Dravid played a major role in guiding the team to victories in several major bilateral series but couldn't help win an ICC title despite reaching the finals twice - the 2023 World Test Championship and the 2023 ODI World Cup.
