India's flawless campaign at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 has suffered a significant setback as star all-rounder Hardik Pandya will miss the remainder of the tournament due to an ankle injury. ICC announces Pandya's replacement
Despite efforts to recover, the 30-year-old Pandya has been unable to regain fitness in time for the rest of the competition, the ICC stated on November 4. To fill the void left by Pandya, Prasidh Krishna has been added to India's squad.
The inexperienced fast bowler Krishna, with only 19 white-ball appearances for India, was approved by the tournament's Event Technical Committee. Krishna's last international appearance saw him taking the important wicket of David Warner, finishing with the figures of 1/45 from nine overs against Australia just before the World Cup.
Krishna's inclusion presents a challenge as he competes with established fast bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj for a place in India's pace attack. With the approval of Krishna's addition, he is eligible for selection in India's crucial World Cup clash against South Africa on November 5.
