The ICC Cricket World Cup Final 2023 will mark the conclusion of cricket's greatest carnival, the World Cup. The fans now have a fresh perspective on the game because this World Cup edition has been one of the most enjoyable competitions. 

During the 2023 World Cup, fans witnessed some of the most famous matches between the top cricketing nations. From Afghanistan defeating the reigning champions England to India defeating Pakistan and preserving the record of victory over Pakistan. This World Cup smashed records spanning decades.  

The rivalry between Australia and India is one of the strongest and longest-lasting of any of these. a ' BEST VERSUS THE BEST' tournament is taking place. This rivalry, which dates back more than 40 years, has produced some of the most memorable games for the fans. 

Early Encounters: Setting the stage on fire

Several matches between India and Australia have been etched into the hearts of cricket fans. So, let's take a visit to these matches down the lane. 

The first encounter of the Indian team with Australia happened during the 1983 World Cup campaign. Both teams had two encounters in that edition, in which each won one match. 

In the 1987 World Cup, India and Australia played twice against each other. In the first match, Australia defeated the Indian team, and in the second battle, India emerged as the victorious one. 

Again, in the World Cup edition of 1992, both cricketing giants added a legendary clash to the history of tournaments. In which Australia took away the lead and won the match by 1 run. 

Australia was on a dream run in the World Cup tournament and defeated India on 3 continuous occasions, in 1996, 1999 and 2003.

In 2003, it came with 2 defeats. One was in the group match, and the other one was the famous Final loss against the mighty Australia.

Ricky Ponting's scintillating century in the Cricket World Cup 2003, powered Australia to a gigantic total of 359 runs. At the same time, India failed to score this many runs and were defeated by 125 runs. 

Recent Encounters: A Rivalry Evolves

The Quarter Finals of the 2011 World Cup was another unforgettable chapter in history. The all-rounder's performance of Yuvraj Singh, including a battling half-century against the Australian bowling attack while chasing a total of 260 runs, still gives a wave of goosebumps. 

In 2015, India again tasted defeat against Australia in the World Cup Semi-Finals at SCG while scoring 328 runs. India fell short of 95 runs while chasing the target, and the dream of winning a World Cup ended there. 

India defeated Australia by 36 runs in World Cup 2019, in which Shikhar Dhawan scored a century with a broken thumb. 

In the round-robin match of World Cup 2023, India registered a thumping victory over Australia with 6 wickets in Chennai.

Emergence of Individual Brilliance

The epic rivalry of India vs Australia has given many heroes, starting from Roger Binny, Trevor Chappel, Sachin Tendulkar, Glen McGrath and Ricky Ponting to Yuvraj Singh, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Virat Kohli and many more. 

These players have stepped up for their respective teams when they needed the most.

The Final Showdown: The History Repeats

The 2003 finals will always be remembered by all the young cricket fans who got their start during the age of superstars like Sachin, Dravid, Zaheer, Ganguly, and others. The team had a fantastic season, but we were destroyed by the Kangaroos in the Finals after losing to Australia in the league.

These two cricket teams have reunited to play in the Cricket World Cup finals after a 20-year break. The Indian cricket team hopes to make amends for the 2003 World Cup finals by working out a score with the Australian team. The Australian squad, on the other hand, hopes to win their sixth championship.
