Team India batsman Shubman Gill is one of the best young batsmen of modern-day cricket and is currently the number two-ranked ODI batsman in the world. Shubman is also the highest run scorer in ODIs in the year 2023 and has scored 1281 runs from 22 innings.

Shubman Gill leaves behind Babar Azam in a major record

Indian cricket team batter Shubman Gill played an innings of 26 runs off 41 balls and became the fastest batsman to complete 2000 runs in ODIs. Shubman left behind former South Africa batsman Hashim Amla, Pakistan captain Babar Azam, former English batter Kevin Pietersen and South African batter Rassie van der Dussen. Amla reached the feat in 40 ODI innings whereas Babar, Pietersen and van der Dussen achieved the milestone in 45 ODI innings. 

Shubman Gill was found positive for dengue ahead of Team India's first CWC 2023 match against Australia and had to miss the first two games of the tournament. However, Gill came back into the team against Pakistan and scored 16 runs off 11 balls. The right-handed batsman was not able to score big looked in good touch. Gill converted his start into a half-century against Bangladesh and played a knock of 53 runs from 55 balls.

Team India need 274 runs to win against New Zealand 

The Indian cricket team restricted New Zealand to a score of 273 runs and now will need 274 to win and break a 20-year-old jinx against the Blackcaps. The Indian team has not defeated New Zealand in any ICC match from 2003 and will look forward to ending the unwanted streak. Rohit Sharma and Co. will also look forward to avenge the 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final loss which ruled the team out of the tournament.
