Chelsea Coach Enzo Maresca Departs Stamford Bridge After Breakdown In Relations With Club - Report
Chelsea have only managed to secure one win in their last seven Premier League fixtures and have dropped 15 points from winning positions in the league this season.
Chelsea are forced to look for a new manager at the start of 2026, as multiple reports suggest that current manager Enzo Maresca has decided to leave the club after an alleged fallout with the club. As per the Guardian, the situation around the manager had been unpredictable for the past few weeks, and it was highly likely that Enzo Maresca could leave Stamford Bridge before the end of the week. Now, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the manager and the club have mutually decided to part ways with immediate effect.
As per the Guardian, Chelsea were set to hold emergency talks regarding the Italian's position, and after the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
Fabrizio Romano Confirms Maresca's Departure
The Italian news anchor had previously reported on the deteriorating relationships between the club and the manager. Additionally, he had also mentioned how the Blues were preparing to decide Maresca's future before the end of the day. While there have been no official statements from the club, Romano confirmed the recent developments on his social media.
Romano wrote, "Chelsea and Enzo Maresca agree to part company with immediate effect. It’s OVER. Official statement to follow but all done after tension growing last 24/48h. Chelsea will now start working on new manager appointment."
Why Enzo Maresca Wanted To Leave Chelsea
As per reports, the coach wished to leave the Blues; however, it is unclear if he is willing to leave without a payoff, as his contract at Stamford Bridge runs until 2029, with an option of an extra year.
Chelsea, who have only managed to secure one win in their last seven Premier League fixtures, dropped 15 points from winning positions in the league this season. Reports suggest Enzo Maresca's cryptic remarks about experiencing his “worst 48 hours” at the club after the victory over Everton on 13 December baffled the club and placed a strain on Maresca's relationship with the club.
Reports claim that a lack of involvement in transfer dealings has frustrated the manager, alongside the hierarchy's constant questioning of his tactics.
Chelsea's Plan After Enzo Maresca's Departure
The pace of recent developments has been extraordinary, but the Guardian reported that the Blues are already prepared with a plan. The Blues might turn to the Strasbourg manager, Liam Rosenior, who has long been viewed as a potential successor to Maresca. The Ligue 1 club is Chelsea's partner club, and Rosenior has impressed for the French side this season.
