Liverpool vs Bournemouth: Late footballer Diogo Jota's wife, Rute Cardoso, and other members will be attending Liverpool's Premier League opener against Bournemouth, at the iconic Anfield, on Saturday, August 16th.

According to Goal.com, there are likely to be many tributes to take place for Diogo Jota during the match. Earlier, Liverpool already announced that they retired the number 20 jersey, which was worn by Jota during his time with Liverpool. Apart from that, the Merseyside club have also decided to put a special badge on their jersey to honour Jota's legacy in Liverpool.

Arne Slot Confirms Diogo Jota's Family Will Be Present At Anfield During Liverpool's PL Opener

In a note, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot confirmed that there will be more tributes at Anfield for the late Liverpool star when his family members are present.

"As I have said previously, the tributes that have been paid throughout the world, and especially within the LFC community, have been truly special and I know that tonight (Friday) we will come together to honour them once more. I believe that Diogo's wife, his children, and his family will be in attendance, and it is important that, as a club, we show that they will always have our love and support as they deal with this most tragic of situations. We are there for them always," Slot stated as quoted by Goal.com.

Diogo Jota Tragically Killed In A Car Crash

The late Liverpool star Diogo Jota was en route to England along with his brother Andre Silva on July 3rd. That's when the Portuguese star, along with his brother, were killed in a car crash in Zamora, Spain. The tragic incident took place just weeks after Jota tied the knot with his long-time partner Rute Cardoso.

Following Jota's death, the football world broke down. Fans from all over the world condoled the tragic incident that took the Liverpool star's life at the age of 28.

Diogo Jota joined Liverpool in September 2020, playing 182 matches and scoring 65 goals. In the previous 2024-2025 season, Jota scored nine goals and made three assists after playing 37 matches.

Last season, Jota also won the Premier League title with Liverpool. The Merseyside club claimed the title after finishing at the top of the table with 84 points.
