Tariq Bugti, president of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), has stepped down from his role following the controversy surrounding the mismanagement during the national team’s tour of Australia earlier this month. Pakistan captain Ammad Shakeel Butt had earlier complained of complete incompetence during the Hobart leg of the FIH Pro League.
Bugti confirmed the development and reiterated that he requested an impartial inquiry into the incident.
“I have sent my resignation letter to the PM but I urge him and Field Marshal Asim Munir to conduct an impartial inquiry into the whole incident which took place in Australia during the FIH Pro League.
Pakistan Team Had To Encounter Pathetic Ordeal In Australia
The national team was left stranded on the streets after their hotel bookings were cancelled because the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) had not cleared the hotel payments.
Videos showed that the Pakistani players had to wash dishes before playing their FIH Pro League matches in Australia. After videos of Pakistani players stranded on the streets emerged, the hockey team captain released another video, insisting there were no issues regarding their accommodation.
But after landing in Pakistan, he blasted the Pakistan Hockey Federation and alleged that they had to go through pathetic conditions, and even some of the players are yet to receive their daily allowance from the Pakistan Sports Board and PHF for the past several months.
After exposing the PHF, Butt has now been suspended for two years for tarnishing the image of his country. Pakistan are yet to win a match in the ongoing FIH Pro League and conceded 17 goals in the last two matches against Australia and Germany. They are currently in the last position in the FIH Pro League table.
The coach of the Pakistan hockey team has also offered his resignation following the team's poor performance.
