WATCH | Naomi Osaka Claims 'Don't Feel Sad, It's Really Weird' After Shock Loss Against Amanda Anisimova in US Open 2025 Semi-Final
US Open 2025: Japan's Naomi Osaka's challenge came to an end on Thursday after Amanda Anisimova edged her in a three-set thriller.
US Open 2025: It was a night to forget for Japan's Naomi Osaka as the two-time US Open champion bowed out in the semi-final against Amanda Anisimova. Following her shock 6-7(4), 7-6(3), 6-3 loss, she was not exactly upset about the result as she claimed ‘don’t feel sad, and that is weird'. She got off the blocks well as she clinched the opening set in the tie-break. Once that happened, everyone started believing that Osaka would make it to the summit clash, but of course Anisimova had different plans.
'Can't be mad or upset at myself'
"I don't feel sad, it's really weird. Well, it's not weird because I just feel that I did the best that I could. And, honestly it's kind of inspiring for me because it makes me just want to train and try to get better and hopefully just give it my best shot again and see what happens. I think I can't be mad or upset at myself," she said after the loss.
Osaka was playing in her first major semifinal since 2021 and embraced the big occasion in the prime-time glare of Arthur Ashe Stadium.
High-Stake Final
Yes, the US Open authorities have increased the prize money for women which is being looked at as a brilliant move to bring gender parity in the game.
“2025 US Open prize money sets record for largest purse in tennis history,” US Open Tennis’s official handle posted on social media.
While defending champion Aryna Sabalenka looks to defend her title successfully, Anisimova will eye her maiden US Open title. All to play for in the summit clash on Saturday (September 6).
