Apple Launches iPhone 17e With A19 Chip, Prices It Higher Than iPhone 16e
The iPhone 17e has been launched at a higher starting price than its predecessor, the iPhone 16e.
Apple on Monday launched iPhone 17e, its more affordable smartphone model that brings notable improvements over the last generation. It features a Ceramic Shield cover for enhanced durability, the new A19 chip, and finally, support for the company's MagSafe wireless charging technology. The iPhone 17e also starts at 256GB of storage, twice as much as that of the iPhone 16's base model, with the price starting at ₹64,900.
The iPhone 17e arrives as Apple looks to defend its share in a fiercely competitive handset market globally. The hike in price comes as memory chip prices climb amid a global shortage, suggesting Apple is willing to absorb some component cost pressure to make its lowest-priced model slightly more compelling than phones from Google and Samsung.

The 256GB model costs ₹64,900, while the 512GB variant is priced at ₹84,900. The iPhone 17e comes in black, white, and soft pink colours, with pre-orders slated to kick off on March 4 and availability starting on March 11.
iPhone 17e specifications
The latest entry-level iPhone has the same design as the iPhone 15, but it also heavily resembles that of last year's iPhone 16e. The iPhone 17e has an Action Button on the side, a single rear camera, and a display notch. While the cosmetic changes are minimal, Apple has made significant under-the-hood upgrades. Powering the iPhone 17e is an A19, the same processor that powers the iPhone 17, but with a 4-core GPU. It retains the 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display, which now uses Ceramic Shield for protection on top.
Its rear camera is a 48MP Fusion sensor with Focus and Depth Control, 2x optical zoom, and 4K@60fps Dolby Vision video recording. Up front is a 12MP TrueDepth camera, which is the same sensor as the iPhone 17's, but lacks advanced features such as Center Stage. Apple claims up to 26 hours of video playback on the iPhone 17e with its battery that supports wired and wireless charging. The iPhone 17e also supports MagSafe, allowing users to wirelessly charge the phone and attach supported accessories to the magnet. Apple has also equipped the iPhone 17e with its latest C1X modem, which debuted last year on the iPhone Air.
