Albania Protest: Violent Clashes In Tirana As Rioters Demand PM Edi Rama’s Resignation

Violent anti-government demonstrations entered their sixth consecutive day in Albania’s capital Tirana on Sunday, as protesters engaged in intense clashes with riot police. Demonstrators threw rocks, petrol bombs and flares, while security forces replied with tear gas, water cannons and baton charges. The unrest spread across the city centre, with crowds targeting government buildings, banks and commercial establishments, vandalising storefronts and starting fires. The ruling party’s headquarters also came under attack during the chaos.

The violence escalated further after high school and university students joined the protests, calling for the resignation of socialist Prime Minister Edi Rama. Some protesters were seen carrying and using firearms during the confrontations. The agitation is being led by the Flamingo movement, which first gained momentum in opposition to a large-scale luxury tourism project planned on Albania’s southern coast. The development is linked to an investment firm founded by Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump.
