Colombia Earthquake Leaves 265 Dead, 11,347 Homes Destroyed; Survivors Flee Collapsed Buildings

Colombian President Abelardo de la Espirella mentioned how the death toll from the deadly earthquake had risen to at least 265 people. The devastation from the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck the country's west has tested de la Espriella and his government as it scrambles to respond to the disaster and civil society as it pushes to provide aid to the most affected communities.

During an update address on the situation on the quake, President De la Espriella said nearly 500 people were reported missing, though civilian-run databases put that number at more than 4,100. He also said that more than 50,000 homes had been damaged, of those over 11,000 had been destroyed and 140 buildings had collapsed.
