COP30 Climate talks: Moment Blaze Erupts at Brazil Climate Summit Venue Caught on Camera
A fire broke out at the COP30 United Nations Climate Change Summit venue in Belém, Brazil, forcing delegates and staff to evacuate. The blaze started near the China pavilion and rapidly spread to adjacent tents, temporarily halting key climate negotiations.
Firefighters brought the situation under control within six minutes. No fatalities have been reported, though 13 individuals were treated for smoke inhalation.
The venue, consisting of large tents and semi-permanent structures, has already drawn criticism for weak infrastructure. Following the incident, delegations shifted to virtual meetings as authorities began damage assessments and repairs.
COP30 has gathered global leaders to discuss urgent climate action, and the disruption has increased pressure and urgency surrounding the ongoing talks.
