Mexico Earthquake: Two Dead After 6.5 Earthquake Hits Guerrero
A 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck southern Mexico on January 2, with its epicenter in Guerrero near the Acapulco region. Strong tremors were felt in Mexico City, triggering seismic alarms and evacuations. Authorities said two people died in the capital due to evacuation related incidents.
Metro services in Mexico City were halted briefly for safety checks, while President Claudia Sheinbaum’s press briefing was interrupted by the alarms. More than 500 aftershocks followed the quake, with landslides reported in parts of Guerrero, though no major structural damage was found in the capital.
